This is an aerial view of Lobley Hill during 1946 just after the War. You can see at point 'A' the old farm at the top of Lobley Hill Road junction with Whickham Higway. At point 'B' is the area where Lobley Hill School was built, point 'C' is the top of where Malvern Gardens is now, the indentations is where 'Big Bertha' the large field gun was placed during the war, point 'D' is the old Railway Line, and point 'E' is around where Snowdon Gardens is now, this was an area used by the army.

This aerial view shows a different view of Lobley Hill with the construction of the estate taking place at 'C'. At point 'A' we can see the bottom of Lobley Hill at the junction with the Coach Road. Point 'D' shows the Coke Works, and point 'B' the site for Lobley Hill School, and point 'E' the Railway Cottages on Whickham Highway.

In this view you can see to the bottom of the picture at point 'A' the Waggon Team Public House. At point 'B' we can see the Railway Bridge at the rear of Malvern Gardens and Woodburn Gardens. Point 'C' shows us Lobley Hill School and point 'D' shows us the allotment area opposite Chiltern Gardens before the Western By-Pass (A1 as we now know it) was built.
